Pastor
 
Being the spiritual leader for the congregation, the position of Pastor encompasses a whole range of privileges and responsibilities of ministry.  The ministry is one of proclamation, pastoral care, and community building; so the shape of the work is fluid rather than fixed since it relates to events in the life of the church.  The requirements, duties, and responsibilities of this office of the church can be met only by a person who has abiding faith in God through the Lord Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit dwelling within.
 
General Requirements
  • Master of Divinity (or comparable theological degree) from an accredited seminary or theological school
  • Appropriate professional ministry experience
  • Ordination
  • Effective, Bible-based preaching skills adaptable to various audiences
  • Demonstrated leadership ability, including conflict management and strong supervisory skills
  • Solid communication skills, both with individuals and with variously sized, aged, located, and purposed groups
  • Pastoral comforting and counseling attitudes and abilities applicable to home, hospital, and community settings
  • Passion for serving the Lord, through His Church, in the community of the world
 
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
The Pastor will see to the health and well-being of the congregation through uplifting and thought-provoking worship experiences, ongoing Christian Education programs, pastoral care and counseling, and social activities that promote church and community spirit.  This position may also require other responsibilities as agreed upon with the church.
 
Worship
  • Plan, order, and coordinate all worship services, or assign this responsibility to other staff and lay leaders
  • Administer the ordinances of the church
  • Plan, order, and coordinate worship in special services such as Advent, Christmas, Lent, Easter, and as scheduled and planned with other staff members and the church family

Pastoral Care

  • Exercise pastoral skills and sensitivity in encounters with church members and friends
  • Provide pastoral leadership and training for and work in close association with the church family
  • Encourage congregational events and activities which build bonds among church members
  • As needed and appropriate, offer pastoral counseling to church members and friends
  • Coordinate and lead hospital and home visitation
  • Contact, by phone, letter, or visit, members and friends, including those who do not regularly attend church services and events
